Stephen Markey enters his eighth year as a volunteer mediator for the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. After serving for ten years in various committees for the Bar Association of Baltimore City, Mr. Markey was appointed by Judge Holland to serve as a volunteer mediator for the Civil Court Division. As a mediator, Mr. Markey tries to help parties resolve civil disputes before they go to trial. By acting as a civil mediator, Mr. Markey and other mediators free up Circuit Court Judges to perform other judicial tasks.

Amy Orsi is entering her fifth year as a member of the Board of Governors for the Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ). The MAJ, which has a goal of “keeping families safe,” is the primary Consumer Advocates Group in Maryland. Every year Mrs. Orsi and Mr. Markey participate in MAJ’s Bike Helmet Safety program which raises money to buy and distribute bike helmets to elementary school children. Mrs. Orsi and Mr. Markey also participate in handing out the helmets after making sure they were adjusted for size.

The Law Offices of Markey & Orsi, including all of its employees, has been “adopting” children for Christmas for over 10 years. Rather than holding a holiday party for staff and exchanging gifts, each year the firm adopts two or more children from the Salvation Army “Angel Tree.” It is far more gratifying to shop for a child in need than for each other.

The Stephen A. Markey firm stays involved in the communities they serve.  They believe in giving back and involving themselves with organizations and causes that are making a difference in the community.  In addition to the significant  pro bono work done each year, members of the firm also support numerous local and national charitable organizations with their time and talents:

•  Bike Helmet Safety Day

•  City Fire Thrill Show

•  Casey Cares at Extra Innings

•  NDD.org

•  Sponsor for St. Baldrick’s Foundation

•  Volunteer Mediator with the Baltimore Circuit Court

•  Mentor for new attorneys

•  911 Fund
